On-Boarding Invervention in Bank of America Case Study

On-Boarding Invervention in Bank of America - Case Study Example Its 2008 Merrill Lynch acquisition made it the largest corporation in wealth management in addition to making it a crucial player in investment banking. As of 2009, it held at least 12.2% of all US bank deposits. Its main competitors are wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase, and Citigroup. As well as operating in all 50 states, it its retail banking footprint covers at least 80% of the United State’s population and serves up to 57 million consumers. The premise of this paper is to study the Bank of America’s talent management program that has a vital part to play in the bank’s phenomenal success, identify its strengths, how it can be improved, and finally to suggest other effective approaches to meet future challenges. In today’s corporate market, the bank of America probably has the best approach to on-boarding, its main form of executive talent management (Goldsmith& Carter, 2009). This has led to a 12% turnover in hiring of executives, having fired 24 out of 19 6. Some higher corporations have a 405-turnover rate for hiring. The program is designed to aid just hired executives in learning facility, build, and leverage relationship networks for company initiative implementation and career success. On taking the job, the executive, is faced with three dilemmas: mastering a demanding ad complex role, high expectations, and a high derailment probability. On-boarding interventions are underpinned by fundamental assumptions (Goldsmith& Carter, 2009). The baseline assumption contends that it occurs over time that is, specifically in the executive’s initial 12-18 months. Interventions occur at given intervals in the 12-18 month period, not the first couple of months on the job. The on-boarding also should be supported via multiple resources, that is, stakeholder resources. Finally, these interventions are dependent on the stakeholder- executive interaction. On-boarding consists of four major phases. The first is the selection phase, which c onsists of the selection process. At the Bank of America, cultural fit and leadership ability are added dimensions to the usual criterion of experience and expertise. The HR function thus gives added attention to its executive search firm’s partnerships to avoid derailment of executives lacking cultural sensitivity, interpersonal skills, and leadership ability. The bank’s leadership development partner assesses the candidate’s leadership approach, team value, and cultural fit. The LD partner then formulates questions for the interviewers that provide insight into the misfit or fit potential of the candidate into the bank’s culture, and their leadership credibility. On hiring, the candidate is given the interview questions and answers, though the feedback source is kept anonymous. The LD partner acquires a calibrated and clear job specification supported and spelled out by the stakeholders about what is required for the job (Goldsmith& Carter, 2009). The n ext phase is the entry phase. The first few weeks are critical for the new executive. He or she must complete four outcomes: develop specific business acumen for the role, learn the culture of the organization, master leadership demands of the role, and build relationships critical to the organization. In order for these demands to be met, three intervention categories are utilized. These are support and coaching, operational forums, and processes and tools. There are three primary givers of support and coaching; the LD collaborate, HR generalist, and hiring executive.

China Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

China - Assignment Example The emperor created an intricate bureaucracy which they used to wage imperial wars, perform public works projects and to build large temples. During the Imperial era, the states were centralized though local officials maintained limited autonomy. Artisans and self-sufficient peasant farmers ruled the economy during this period. Business was relatively frequent and it increased after the Han Dynasty after Silk Road was developed. During this period, there was an emergence of large-scale businesses and advancements in technology. Developments in technology were marked by the invention of paper, wheelbarrows and the seismograph. The Late Imperial era brought an economic revolution in China. With technological advancements, there was a rise in large-scale enterprises, waged labour and use of paper money. Trade in the overseas flourished during the Ming Dynasty. Liberalisation of capital, investment and commerce took place as technology continued to advance. At the same time, there was privatisation of government manufacturing industries. There was also emergence of urban and rural markets, whereby there was production that was geared towards consumption. The emergence of these markets was a key development during this era (Hampton & Moss, 2004, p. 37-42). Power distance refers to the extent to which people who have less powers in an organization will expect and accept power to be distributed in a different way. China is ranked 80 on power distance which is very high. This rank means that there is a big power distance between the subordinates and the management. However, that is acceptable and considered normal. Individualism is where people think with a mentality of â€Å"I† or â€Å"We†. For the American culture for example, it is mostly â€Å"I† focused. It therefore means that the Americans focus more on furthering themselves and their careers versus furthering their departments or groups. China is ranked at 91 on individualism. It therefore means

Before Sunrise And The Slacker Genre Film Studies Essay

Before Sunrise And The Slacker Genre Film Studies Essay Before Sunrise, is a movie featuring two strangers, Celine and Jesse, who met on a train and spent a night sharing experiences, thoughts and affections, but parted before sunrise. The movie has a taken a minimalist plot as it involves the two characters walking around the city of Vienna, sharing their experiences openly as they believe they may never get to see each other again. Its sequel is a 2004 movie called Before Sunset, which continues with the story. Celine and Jesse meet each other after nine years. They walk around the city of Paris talking about their experiences especially on issues to do with life and love, and they realize they still love each other. They agree to meet again at the same place six months later as the train leaves. This paper presents a review of the genre of the two movies and the significance of the applied genre. Slacker genre Before Sunrise and Before Sunset belong to the slacker genre. They have deviated from the convention plot which characterizes Hollywood movies. The movies have a minimalist plot whereby the characters are followed throughout the cities as they walk and talk about their experiences. Because of this, nothing much seems to happen and the movies therefore seem to have no plot. Lack of plot in the movies is also emphasized by the fact that the movies have no antagonists or protagonists, and they do not revolve around a conflict as is the case with Hollywood movies. The two characters simply stroll around the respective cities in the two movies and talk about issues ranging from religion, life, love, and the cities. At no point do they engage in a conflict. Generation X films and Characters The characters in the movies belong to Generation X. Jesse and Celineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s love reflects that of teens whose grasp of aspects such as reality, and emotions seems weird. They fall in love deeply despite the reality facing them that they may never see each other again. In Before Sunrise, the characters engage in low key laughter, which seems to emerge from interactions of the main characters. The way they relate makes the film look like a love story rather than like a romantic comedy. Their love seems perfect with no commitments, obstacles, conflicts, or change of lifestyle to fit in to the others world. Thei9r love seems so real and it is the best kind of love ever seen on screen (Before Sunrise). In Before Sunset, the same kind of love continues between the characters. It seems as if they have been together all along. Obstacles that would seemingly affect the love such as Jesseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s wife and son, and Celineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s boyfriend do not come in to th eir way. The two movies showcase a love only possible among the generation X who do not let anything get in to their way. The characters are thus exemplary of Generation X. The two characters seem to be hyper-talkative. Unlike in the Hollywood movies which center the main idea around a conflict which needs to be resolved urgently, these movies present a situation where the characters are living in the moment. They are totally open to each other due to their heightened romantic involvement; unlike in Hollywood Movies whose source of conflict is secrets and lack of openness. Jesse and Celine want to share the moments they have and make it last forever. The movies setting and ideals as well as the genre are clear indications that the target group is young people, who believe in a love that can endure all kinds of obstacles. The movies are expressing the strong emotions that are usually repressed in individualà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s everyday lives. The movies have taken details found in our everyday lives and transformed them in to moments of strong emotions. These are however a reality among teenagers who believe in a strong kind of love that is unconditional, and they are best expressed in Generation X films. In addition, the idea of wandering in a foreign city with a stranger you have just met but feel emotionally connected brings about a feeling of intoxication among young people than it would in older adults. Significance of the Deviation from Hollywood Conventional Plot Deviation from the conventional Hollywood plot brought about a different kind of reality from that brought about in the Hollywood plot. The deviation has enabled the movie to bring about the interpersonal connections that exist between people and that allow them to find new value in their lives. Despite having deviated from the social norms and ideals of the Hollywood conventional plot, the movies are fully achieved art works with a lot of creativity and suspense created through repeated viewings. The movie offers illusion of an eternal moment and a fulfillment of a dream by capturing the significance of each moment in the scenes despite their seemingly messy complexity. Despite being plotless, the movies are well structured in terms of the things the characters say to each other, when, and how they say them (Before Sunrise). Varying Aspects of the Movies from those of Hollywood narrative Convention Deviation from the Hollywood plot in the movies was achieved through incorporating or leaving out a variety of aspects. One of these aspects is the setting. Instead of the elaborate setting in movies with convectional plots, these movies revolve around similar settings which are not elaborate. The two characters are first seen in the train where they meet, and after that, the setting changes to the cities where they stroll. In Before Sunrise, they enter in to places such as bars, and restaurants (Before Sunrise). Before Sunset has a similar setting whereby they walk around Paris entering in to places like gardens and restaurants. The film language is different from that of Hollywood movies. The camera movements of the movies are quite unique. There is a lot of reframing which results to viewing repetitions in Before Sunrise which help in capturing emotions (Before Sunrise). Before Sunset is majorly inclusive of long-take tracking pictures. Their significance is that they have enhanced realism which is non-existent. The movie has contrasting and masterful lighting. The dialogue between the characters is light and calculated as they talk about their lives, love, and their experiences. This is contrary to the conventional plot whose dialogue is strong basing on the conflict. Character development is not given much significance as the story itself. Celine is presented as a modern woman who is confident and smart. She is also presented as funny and lovely. Jesse on the other hand, is a bit old fashioned, goofy, intelligent, and sensitive. He is also evasive as he avoids confessing of having any romantic feelings. In order to tell the story without necessarily employing a specific plot, the movies have employed a simple narrative structure. The immediacy of each of his scenes through calculated revelations of the characters about their lives, feelings and opinions about things. The point at which they reveal details about themselves, and how they reveal them are gradual and elaborate. It does not consist of a conflict waiting to be resolved, or protagonists and antagonists. The structure gives the movie its substance which is the details the characters reveal about themselves, how they tell them, and the memories they have about their encounters. Conclusion The movies, Before sunrise and Before Sunset present a love story that is strong and fragile at the same time. The movies are however quite unique as they belong to the slacker genre. The movies have completely deviated from the Hollywood Conventional plot through the use of different kinds of settings, lighting, and narrative structure. Most importantly, the storyline deviates from the narrative convention as the storyline itself which does not have such aspects such as protagonist, antagonist or conflict which are considered significant. These aspects have made the movies to be considered as examples of slacker genre, and to the overall success of the movies.

Comparing Women in Raisin In the Sun, House On Mango Street, and Yellow

Roles of Women in A Raisin In the Sun, The House On Mango Street, and A Yellow Raft In Blue Water      Ã‚  Ã‚   A Raisin In the Sun, The House On Mango Street, and A Yellow Raft In Blue Water all contain strong, defined images of women. These women control and are controlled. They are oppressed and liberated. Standing tall, they are confident and independent. Hunched low, they are vulnerable and insecure. They are grandmothers, aunts, mothers, wives, lovers, friends, sisters and children. Although they span a wide range of years and roles, a common thread is woven through all of their lives, a thread which confronts them day in and day out. This thread is the challenge they face as minority women in America to find liberation and freedom from lives loaded down with bondage. These women fight to live and in their living they display their strengths and their weaknesses. They demonstrate the opposition many women face being viewed as the inferior sex as well as discrimination against their ethnicity. In this struggle Hansberry, Dorris and Cisneros depict women attempting to find con fidence and security in the society around them. Comparing and contrasting the novels A Raisin In the Sun, The House On Mango Street, and A Yellow Raft In Blue Water, three principal images of women emerge: their strength, bondage and liberation. These images combine to depict the struggle of many minority women, regardless of their ethnic background, and shapes the character they draw from society.    "Now--you say after me, in my mother's house there is still God...There are some ideas we ain't going to have in this house. Not long as I am at the head of this family" (Hansberry 51). From Mama's ardent statement in A Raisin In the Sun, addressed to ... ... in the past has held them down. Finding strength in this new liberation they will be released to assist others in gaining their freedom and becoming whole individuals. We take courage and inspiration from the lives of Beneatha, Esperanza, Mama, Evelyn, Rayona and others as they display the struggle toward true womanhood and the strength to "come back. For the ones who cannot leave as easily as you" (Cisneros 105).    Works Cited: Blicksilver, Edith. The Ethnic American Woman. Kenall/Hunt Publishing; Iowa, 1978. Cisneros, Sandra. Automated Sales and Inventory System Essay

2.1 Background of Study Information system is a collection of hardware, software and people that work together to collect, store, and sort and process information. From the very earliest moments in the modern history of the computer, the people and the business world have witnessed the continuous development and growth of computer system that requires meeting the goal of Information technology. We have the completely new world of information and communication readily available through computer. With its excellent standards the proponents decided to come up with this proposal which aim was to provide quality customer service in the business, design a system that monitor report, can the quantity of inventory items, can determine reorder or production point, can generate report, can check the critical level of a product, This study would surely benefit the proprietor of Muella Trading. Mr.Muella the owner of Muella Trading has knowledge in terms of hardware because he already worked at Hardware Company. With that knowledge the proprietor decided to had own business. The business started on February 8, 2009 at Guinobatan Albay by Mr. Eugine Muella and Mrs. Marites Napili Muella. The mention company has 4 employees/ laborer. That company has four category in terms of product they retail the electrical, plumbing, hardware and products use for construction. For almost two years in the industry the proprietor are using the manual inventory system. With this kind of system the process of their transactions are very slow and it is a time consuming to their business transactions. This is the main reason why they decided to shift from manual to automated sales and inventory system. The shifting of inventory was made possible by the proponents to make the daily transactions of the company faster, easier and more accurate. The system helps them to eliminate problems on sales, storage and retrieval of inventory data for the inventory status. 2.2 Statement of the Problem 2.0 Methodology of the study Agile is a practice-based methodology for modelling and documentation of software-based systems. It is intended to be a collection of values, principles, and practices for Modelling software that can be applied on a software development project in a more flexible manner than traditional Modelling methods. It is a built on the foundation of iterative development.[ Karthiksangi2009] ‘The Home Page of Karthiksangi’ http://karthiksangi.wordpress.com/agile-methodology/ The proponents used agile as their method in developing the system because of its phases, which is suited in developing the propose system. Requirements The first step in the Agile Modelling is to identify some high-level requirements as well as the scope of the release. The requirements within an agile process are more or less ’suggestions’, and are open to more conversation by the team during other phases. The Agile method is more adaptable to changes in requirements as the project grows. The proponents identify first the minimum and general requirements of the system they will be develop and they conducted an interview to the company so that it would helped them in getting information about the requirements that needed in developing the system. Architecture and Design The goal of the architecture and design phase is to try to identify an architecture that has a good chance of working. The design is derived in a modelling session, in which issues are explored, until the team is satisfied that they understand what needs to be delivered. The proponents designed a database which is suited and capable for the system they developed and defined the attributes, data entry and relationship of them. In connection with this, the proponents created a Graphical User Interface designed that can allow users to interact with the system. Development The system is delivered incrementally over time, in small modules that have immediate business value, rather than building and then delivering a system in a single â€Å"big bang† release. By focusing development on smaller modules, agile projects are able to control costs despite the seeming lack of planning. The proponents create, design and develop a propose system they studying. In this phase the proponent still in developing part and they more concentrating and focusing on creating a small module which is really required to that system. 3.0 Review of Related Studies Click software Inventory System It is a highly configurable system designed to improve warehouse operations. The system helps manage item master configuration and defines stock locations, monitors item quantity, location and status of inventory as well as related shipping, receiving, picking and put-away process information. The system is capable of providing automatic identification using barcodes for inventory objects which include any type of physical assets, tools and supplies, spare parts, raw materials, finished goods, and machines. This system reduces warehouse cost and improves customer service by speeding up the goods handling process, providing transparent and accurate inventory data, improves your resource planning resulting to increased productivity and decreased labor costs. Retail and Inventory System This inventory system enables maintenance and processing of sales, purchases and inventory data to prepare transactions, documents and generate reports. It provides information useful to decision making regarding sales, purchases and inventory monitoring. This system organizes your inventory transaction and provides useful audit trails of inventory movements, details and histories to allow improved control over your investment. The features of the systems are the system has a highly secure password. The system maintains item profile, customer profile, supplier profile. The purchases facilities include purchase items and purchase return. The system also design a sales facilities include sales Items and sales exchange. The system has report facilities that include transaction list and POS retail reports. In relation of this the proponents got an idea that it would help them in development of the system they develop. Both inventory system have a good and wonderful features that the proponents can use in there system such as highly security of the program that would benefit the management of the company because if it is highly security the more secure of system and other features that would also benefit not only for the management but to the other users also. 4.0 Theoretical Framework Database Management System (DBMS) The theory on database management become the foundation in creating the storage of records in propose system. A database management system (DBMS) is a program that lets one or more user create and access data in database. It manages user request so that user and other programs are free from having to understand where the data are physically located, and in a multi-user system that else will also be accessing the data. In handling user requests, the DBMS ensures the integrity of the data. In handling user request, the DBMS ensures the integrity of the data. (That is making sure it continues to be accessible and is consistently organized as intended) and its security (making sure that only those with access privilege can access the data) A DBMS can be thought of as a file manager that manages data in database rather than files in file system. In IBM’s main frame operating system, the number retrieval data managers are known as access methods. A DBMS is usually an inherent part o f a database product. On PC’s Microsoft Access is a popular example of a single or small group user DBMS. Microsoft SQL Server is an example of a DBMS that enables a user to store, modify and extract information from a database. [WOOD2007] Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) RDBMS is a type of database management system that stores in the form of related tables. Relational database is powerful because it requires little assumption about how data are related or how this data will be extracted from the database. An important of relational system is that a single database can be spread across several tables. This differs from flat – file database, in which each database is self- contained in a single table. Almost full-scale database systems are RDBMS. Small database system, however, use other designs that provide less flexibility in posing queries. [CASH2005] Data Security Computer system secures the records from unauthorized users and protects the data from loss. The proponents saw to it that all the records stored in the database are safe and protected. Therefore, they made use of the applications based from theory, data security. Data security is means of ensuring that the data are kept safe from corruption and that access to its suitably controlled. Thus, data security helps to ensure privacy and protection that’s why most computer system adopts security measures that involve data encryption and password. Data encryption is the transmission of data into from that is unintelligible without a deciphering mechanism. A password is a secret word or phrase that gives a user access to particular program or system. [WOOD2007] Networking Networking is a system that transmits any combinations of voice, video and data between users. The network includes the network operating system in the client and server machines connecting them and all supporting hardware in between such as bridges, routers and switches; in wireless systems, antennas and towers are also part of a network. In Information technology, a network is a series of points or nodes interconnected by communication path. The most common topology is the bus, star, token ring and mesh topologies. Network can also be categorized in terms of spatial distance as Local Area networks (LAN’s), Metropolitan area Network (MAN’s) and Wide Area Networks (WAN’s). A given network can also characterized by the type of data transmission technology used (for example a TCP/IP or system networks architectures); by whether it carries voices, data, both kind of signals; by user (Private of Public); by the usual nature of its connectives (dial up or switched, de dicated or no switch or virtual connections); by the type of physical link (for example optical fiber, coaxial cable and unshielded twisted pair.) [STI2002] Back-up and Restore Storing back –up copies of software data back -up and having back –up computer and communication capabilities are important basic safeguard because the data can then be restored if they are altered or destroyed by a computer crime or accident. Computer data should be backed up frequently and should be restored nearby in secure locations in case of damage at the primary site. Transporting sensitive data to storage locations should also be done securely. [HOIST2004] 5.0 Data Gathering Procedures and Analysis Output On data gathering procedures the proponents conducted a direct interview to the company of Muella Trading. Based from that interview, the proponents where able to know the existing problem of a company. They also conducted research and review from thesis projects of STI Legaspi. The proponents also surfed to the internet to get and gather some information which is related for the study After gathering, the proponents got possible solution to solve the existing problem met by the company in using the manual inventory system. Through the help of those data that the proponents gathered, they analyse how it will apply in developing the system. 6.0 Documentation of the current system 6.1 Description of the current system User Information In this module the admin can create, edit, activate, deactivate and delete user account, including all their information but deleting data is not require or not good because if there’s an animalise in the program or the system you can easily retrieve and check of those data and also for other purposes. In this module again the user can create another account but again only the admin has an authorize to do that. Supplier Information The proponents create a module that the admin can add, edit and delete supplier information. To make the user easier to find and view the suppliers the proponents put there an search button. The user can search by supplier code or by name. Product Information This module can add, edit, and delete the product information. The admin also can add category like construction, plumbing, paint and everything that the hardware has. In this module also they can add supplier, view list of the entire product as well as the supplier of that product the selling and supplier price, including percentage of the vat and promos. Point of Sale (POS) In this module the admin and the cashier only has a right to access and give or issue a transaction. In one transaction you can add item as many as you can including its unit, quantity and the prize. When someone needs to delete item because of error the proponents put a security password for securing the transaction. It computes the total amount of sales of the transaction the discount, the amount given of the customer and computes the change. The product into the database decreases. Purchase Order The company purchase their product in different supplier. In this module you can identify the products that in a critical level so with this the owner of company can easily determine the product need to be orders. The proponents also include the total amount the product they order.

Catherine Booth Contribution to Christianity Essay

Catherine Booth has strongly contributed to the expression and development of Christianity. Through developing the organisation The Salvation Army, Booth addressed discriminatory issues present in the Christian church such as the inequality of women and exclusion of the lower class. Booth has influenced, and still continues to influence Christian society by displaying female equality in the church, workplace and home. Her charity work through The Salvation Army altered Christianity’s perspective of assisting all people in need and not distinguishing between â€Å"deserving† and â€Å"undeserving† poor. Booth adapted her church to make it more holy, sacred and appealing to all in society, she placed emphasis on accepting the poor so that more people can go back to god. Catherine Booth influenced the Christian Church’s belief of women’s rights. During her lifetime the Christian Church believed it was heretical to allow a woman to preach and teach adults. Booth began her work preaching in her home, then teaching in the Dockland parishes of Rotherhithe and Bermondsey1, and conducting evangelistic rallies. She was convinced that women had an equal right to preach and teach. This is displayed in her brochure â€Å"Female ministry; or woman’s right to preach† where she stated â€Å"Why should a woman be confined exclusively to the kitchen and the distaff, any more than man to the field and workshop. †2 Booth also pointed out that the first people who proclaimed the news of the resurrection of Jesus were women. Therefore, due to the strong leadership roles of women in Jesus’s life, women have as much responsibility for the gospel as men. During her work of preaching, Booth received much criticism from Christians and the church, but she also challenged a lot of minds and became a role model for female ministry. Booth was a full and equal partner in establishing the well know organisation, The Salvation Army, which was initially known as The Christian Mission3. Due to her strong role in creating this charity Booth was proclaimed with the title â€Å"Mother of an Army†. Yet again, the salvation army received much censure from the government and Christian variants such as the Church of England for allowing women to have the same rights as men. Lord Shaftesbury, an evangelist and politician in her time stated Booth was an â€Å"elevation of women to man’s status†4. The impact and influence of the Salvation Army and it’s strong role of women let the Church of England to fear another schism in Christianity. When Catherine married William Booth in 1865 he initially disagreed with her beliefs of equality, especially in the church. Although, it wasn’t long before the couple announced their relationship as equal5, William even stated in relation to Catherine’s role in the Salvation Amy â€Å"the best men in my army are the women. †6 Catherine Booth was, and continues to be an example of female equality in the church, workplace and home. Her actions in the 19th century influenced further Christian developments such as the feminist theology in the 20 and 21st century. Booth’s example continues to change and develop Christian beliefs in female equality; the majority of Christian churches now express women as equal and support their contribution in religious practices. Through her strong belief and acts on social justice, Catherine Booth has developed the expression of social justice in Christianity. She displayed how normal people, normal Christians can help and impact others by adhering to the two focus’ of social justice, direct aid and raising awareness to change unjust structures. Booth has always had this passion for social justice; when she was a child playing in her yard she watched the arrest of a drunken man. Instead of running away in disgust, Booth went and kept the man company, holding his until they reached the jail7. Moral stories like Catherine’s continue to influence many people of a significant Christian belief, accepting and helping people. Through the work of the Salvation Army Booth approached the direct aid focus of social justice by establishing food for million shops and improving work conditions for women and children. She was distinct from the other charities and churches of her time, as she did not distinguish between â€Å"deserving† and â€Å"undeserving† poor. This is evident through her successful campaigns, focusing on the raising awareness area of social justice, against the use of yellow phosphorus in matching making factories. Other campaigns included the injustice of â€Å"white slavery† (prostitution of young women) which resulted in raising the age of consent from thirteen to sixteen years, and supporting the temperance society. 8 Catherine Booth stated â€Å"It is a shameful scandal on those Christians andlords who keep their tenants in buildings unfit for dogs. †9 Booth’s passion for social justice has contributed to the expression of Christianity by displaying Jesus’ love for those in need and not distinguishing between the poor. In doing so, she has also influenced the way Christianity is perceived, this is evident through the high regard w hich the Salvation Army is now perceived in wider society. Booth’s passion for social justice also developed a determination to initiate a more accepting and holy church in the Christian community. She abandoned the Christian denominations that she saw as too immutable and middle class, and reached out to those who were excluded from these churches. In the Salvation Army churches, Booth placed an emphasis on holiness and went against the use of sacraments such as communion and baptism. To promote and attract the poor and needy to the church, the salvation army used popular music and theatrical styles such as those that were used in America, this form of ministry was more accessible and appealing to the poor and lower class. 0 The result of Booth’s campaigns were shown in a 1882 survey; on one weeknight 17 000 people were recorded to be worshiping with the salvation army in comparison to 11 000 involved in ordinary church. 11 This statistic challenged other Christian variants to alter their own forms of worship. The goal of the salvation army continues to be the promotion of the Christian faith. 12 By inspiring people to go back to god, Booth remains an important figure i n Christianity. She encouraged the Christian church to accept people over all social classes into their ministry, and now in modern times the church supports and helps the unfortunate in developing their faith in god. Catherine Booth’s impact on the development and expression of Christianity was immense. The acceptance and freedom of women and the lower class in Christian society is greatly due to Catherine Booth. She still continues to influence and contribute to Christianity to this day through her past examples of female equality and social justice. The Salvation Army remains Booth’s legacy that assists all people in developing faith in god.
